Gov. Rotimi Amaechi stage managed his gun attack - Rivers police say
"The police wishes to react to the news that went viral on both normal and social media quoting David Iyofor, chief press secretary to Rivers state governor, to the effect that gunshots were fired at the convoy of his principal at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor local government. To put the records straight, after a successful and peaceful rally under the close watch of policemen led by the divisional police officer of the area, shots were indiscriminately fired from the convoy of the governor for reasons best known to them, as against the wispy claim of David Iyofor. No shots were fired at the convoy of the governor. The false alarm, which is the usual penchant of the state government, may not be unconnected with the bogus claim of assassination attempt by his principal that is to just whip up public sympathy. The command urges politicians to refrain from whipping sentiments by toying with security issues to create needless public panic, where there is none, please.” the statement read

EFCC denies freezing Father Mbaka's accounts
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied reports that they froze the accounts of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.
There were media reports yesterday that Fr Mbaka had claimed during his
sermon on Wednesday March 25th that the EFCC had frozen his
bank accounts and that he was invited to their Port Harcourt office for
questioning. He supposedly said he went to the bank on Tuesday March
24th
to cash some money to buy foodstuff for the poor who had just returned
to
Enugu from the North and the cheque he presented was
rejected.
EFCC
Spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren released a statement late yesterday denying that the
agency froze his account. See the statement after the cut.."The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC has been drawn to reports in a section of the media claiming that the Commission had frozen the accounts of Enugu-based Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Mass fame. The commission wishes to state that there is no truth in the report and should be discountenanced.” the statement read

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 24, 2015 arraigned Justice Unuafe and his son, Omorigho Unuafe, before Justice Lambo Akanbi of the Federal High Court Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on a 4-count charge bordering on obstruction, possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money by false pretense.
Father and son were arrested by operatives of the EFCC upon intelligence gathered while investigating a reported case of internet scam. The duo who are jobless, were found in possession of Honda Accord 2004 model and an Acura ZDX, without document to prove how they got the vehicles. They also have an almost completed storey building located in Delta State . The accused persons decidedly refused to give the EFCC operatives the required information needed from them for the investigation.
One of the charges reads:
“That you Justice Unuafe on or about the 12th day of February, 2015 at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did obstruct the officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by refusing to give the details of your account number, the details of your relation who sold Acura ZDX with registration number SMK 307 DC to you and other information requested from you and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 38 (2) (b0 of the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.”
Another charge reads:
“That you Omorigho Justice Unuafe on or about 30th day of December, 2014 at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this honorable court with intent to defraud, did obtain the total sum of $4,256 (Four Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Six Dollars) by false pretence from one Cheng Chung Shin by representing yourself as MARO MOTON, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under Section 1 (3) of the said Act.”
They pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
In view of their pleas, counsel to EFCC, Sadiq Hussain, prayed the court to fix a date for trial to commence, while the accused persons be remand in EFCC custody.
The defence counsel, C. I. Anyaghbuna, however, pleaded for bail for the accused persons.
In his ruling, Justice Akanbi granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 (Five Thousand Naira) with one surety each in like sum. The sureties must have their addresses verified by the EFCC, and must be responsible members of the society.
The matter has been adjourned to May 20, 2015 for trial.

Terrorists killed as troops recapture Gwoza, BH HQ + photos from the operation
Sequel to the violent and heinous crimes perpetrated by terrorists in North Eastern Nigeria, the Armed Forces of Nigeria was tasked to halt the carnage and restore sanity in that region. This resulted in the deployment of land and air forces. The deployment denied the terrorists the freedom of action they had hitherto enjoyed and they resorted to diversionary tactics known with terrorist groups around the world by carrying out isolated attacks and bombings.
The series of deployment and operational effectiveness of the military were however challenged by the porosity of the borders, which gave the terrorists leverage to operate in Nigeria and retreat into safe havens in neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The recent reinvigoration of a partnership between Nigeria and these neighbouring countries under the auspices of Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) provided the desired response to the challenge, as these border areas that hitherto served as hideouts for the terrorists have been actively dominated by troops in the MNJTF. This development decimated the fighting capabilities of the terrorists, as the Nigerian military carries out a final onslaught on the nation’s enemy within the country. These successful operations have culminated in the dislodgment of terrorists from towns and communities in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states. Just this morning, the gallant troops of the Nigerian military in a concerted and well-coordinated land and air operations have liberated Gwoza, the headquarters of their so called caliphate which they renamed ‘darul hikima’. This was preceded by successive sack of terrorists from towns and villages leading to Gwoza, the main objective. Several of the terrorists have died and many of them captured in the process. A lot of arms and ammunition have been recovered and the administrative Headquarters completely destroyed. A massive cordon and search has commenced to locate any of the fleeing terrorists or hostages in their custody. As at yesterday, the military has been able to take over virtually all the enclaves and hideouts where the terrorists were marauding. It is observed that some of the terrorists are currently fleeing towards border areas. The fleeing terrorists will expectedly run into subsequent encounter with contingents of partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force who have been mandated to contain them accordingly. The mop up operation in Gwoza and other liberated areas will continue in order to ensure that no vestiges of terrorists or terrorism remain in our country. The Nigerian military and security agencies therefore thank Nigerians and our partners in the sub-region who have consistently encouraged and supported us in the course of these operations. The military is more than ever before determined to once and for all stamp out every trace of terrorism and insecurity in our country. All citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report every movement or assemblage of suspicious characters to the security forces so that NEVER AGAIN shall the evil elements re-group to terrorize or cause mayhem in our country.
Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
