Okonjo-Iweala Slams Reports That Family is Building Alleged Multi-billion Dollar Hospital

Okonjo-Iweala Slams Reports That Family is Building Alleged Multi-billion Dollar Hospital

Sahara Reporters released a report claiming Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's family was planning to open a multi-million dollar hospital in Abuja, the former Minister says this is not true.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

In a response to reports by SaharaReporters that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's family was planning to open a multi-million dollar hospital in Abuja, the former Minister has denied the claims.

Read her full response below: -

Having failed to achieve any success after months of unsubstantiated figures and wild allegations against Dr Okonjo-Iweala, the political and corrupt vested interests who have been attacking her have now turned their evil attention on her family. The false story, “Former Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala’s Family to open multi-million Dollar Hospital in Abuja” published by the corrupt website, Sahara Reporters is the latest chapter in the anti-Okonjo-Iweala campaign.

The story is totally baseless for a very simple reason: The alleged hospital is non-existent. Anyone who is in doubt can go to Gwarinpa, Abuja where the hospital is allegedly located or enquire from General Electric and Perkins + Will Global, the two organisations that were mentioned as Consultants to the project in the report as to whether the hospital has been built.

The real facts are as follows:

Dr Ikemba Iweala, the husband of Dr Okonjo-Iweala is a recently retired neuro-surgeon and emergency physician with over 40 years’ of practice in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Three of their four children are US trained medical doctors, including Uchechi Iweala who was mentioned in the story. Uchechi has an MD and MBA from Harvard.

To actualize his desire to give back to the country, Dr Ikemba Iweala for the past few years has been working on establishing a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory. He has used his savings to develop the concept and design of the hospital. So far efforts to source financing for the project are ongoing.

It is the prototype design and website of the yet to be realized project that Sahara Reporters, doing the bidding of its corrupt pay masters, seeks to turn into a multi-billion dollar evidence of corruption.

Why is Dr Okonjo-Iweala the object of this ceaseless campaign of falsehoods and distortions? The answer is simple: because she refused to steal and share and because she blocked many powerful people, some of whom are now in power, from stealing. That is why they would go to any lengths to tarnish her name.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala has a clean record of two terms in office. As we have consistently maintained, she is not afraid of a transparent investigation of her two terms in office. She supports the anti-corruption drive in Nigeria. No one who has had the privilege of serving his or her country should feel too big to be investigated. It is this very issue of fighting corruption that brought her back in the first place and she has a track record of blocking corruption. It is ironic that it is those same corrupt people who are trying to tarnish her image using corrupt media like Saharareporters.

People should recall that it was her fight against subsidy scammers that led to her mother being kidnapped in 2012 with the demand by the scammers that she should resign and leave the country.

Nigerians should prepare for more attacks because these people are desperate and drunk with power. But they will keep failing because the truth will ultimately prevail.

Incidentally, the hospital idea is still very much alive and anyone who is interested should please come forward to discuss possible investment. But there is a condition: the money must be clean. Corrupt people, especially lying governors, need not apply.

Health Hazards of Working For Long Hours, Remedies (Must Read)

Health Hazards of Working For Long Hours, Remedies (Must Read)

Sitting down for so long and starring at the computer screen has been deemed injurious to the human health as the human body is not designed to function to an optimum level that way.

Once you sit down at your desk, how often do you take a break? Do you simply pound away at your computer, probably postponing bathroom breaks, forgetting to drink water, not to talk of eating?

Of course, every job schedule has a time that people should submit their work; especially in a production chain where whoever fails to submit his job on schedule will most likely disrupt work flow and negatively impact production.

Yet, physicians say those who work longer than 55 hours a week have a 33 per cent higher stroke risk and a 13 per cent higher risk of coronary heart disease than people working 35 to 40 hours a week.

Generally, it is eight hours daily, five days a week for the average worker. But so much has changed because of the need for employers to cut staff strength while increasing job schedule in order to beat the odds. So, to keep your job, you may most likely have to put in extra hours that don’t necessarily translate into extra pay.

Again, there are some jobs that simply don’t specify closing hours! What this means is that you only go home when your schedule is done for the day. For those working such jobs, the probability is that you are spending more hours at work.

However, physicians are saying that the longer the hours you work, the more exposed you are to risks of certain health challenges that include coronary heart disease – a number one killer disease that makes plaque to build up inside the arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle.

Get round it

Experts at the online portal, pickthebrain.com, say sitting for 10 hours a day is extremely bad for your health. Not only is it bad for your posture, but it increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Sleep well: They counsel you to get enough good quality sleep. “There is simply no way to stay healthy if you are constantly sleep-deprived,” they enthuse.

Eat regularly, and well: Your body and brain can’t work well or heal properly if you aren’t getting the building blocks to do so. Whether you work weird hours or normal hours, diet is still responsible for 80-90 per cent of your success or failure when it comes to staying healthy.

Change positions: and muscle groups used through the day. Our bodies are not designed to sit in a chair and be on a computer all day. Schedule breaks, and use them. Get up and walk around. Sitting promotes culmination of abdominal fat, which is a big risk factor in heart attacks. Prolonged sitting has also been linked to chronic and deadly diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

Breathe! Remind yourself to breathe. You’ll probably be surprised how often your breathing is held or shallow once you pay attention to it. Take a break once an hour and give yourself five deep breaths, eyes closed, along with a stretch regimen. This lets your muscles stay loose through the day, burn some extra calories, and prevents muscle aches.

Eat light snacks: If you are working hard, you will need energy to fuel your day. What most people do (incorrectly) is have three big meals during the day. Instead, what you should be doing is having small meals throughout the day. Bring snacks and small meals so you can eat them throughout the day. This way you can get the proper nutrition without feeling lethargic or sleepy.

Hydrate often: You should always be drinking water. The body can last longer without food than it can without water; that is how important water is to the body. So, when working, you should always have a bottle of water next to you. It hydrates your system, keeps you alert and healthy.

Exercise: Fitting a workout into a long workday can seem nearly impossible. However, exercise boosts moods and makes you more productive. Make it a part of your everyday routine.

Alibaba Slams NBC Over Ban on Olamide's Shakiti Bobo

Alibaba Slams NBC Over Ban on Olamide's Shakiti Bobo

King of Nigerian stand-up comedy, has expressed displeasure over the recent ban on some Nigerian songs.
Ali Baba

Nigerian ace comedian, Alibaba, has reportedly expressed his dissappointment on the NBC’s ban on Nigerian songs, maintaining that most of the banned songs have been in circulation for a long time.

He was said to have used Olamide’s Shakiti Bobo as an example, maintaining that even pastors are aware of the song.

Alibaba wondered why it took the NBC so long to realise that the songs were not good enough for the public, reaffirming that some of the songs were so popular that worshipers demonstrate the dance steps during praise and worship in churches.

In his words; “I just heard that some songs were banned from airplay. Wait o, if it took NBC how many months to know the contents of a song were not fit for public consumption, then we should worry. Songs that I have heard Pastors singing sef. People even shakiti in church during praise and worship.”

Goodluck Jonathan Was No Drunk - Reuben Abati Dispels Rumours

Reuben Abati, who was Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in Goodluck Jonathan's administration, says the drinking rumours are false.

Goodluck Jonathan

Rumours have been circulating for months about the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's habit of being found drunk in Aso-Rock.

A former aide, Reuben Abati, who was Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in Goodluck Jonathan's administration, says it is not true.

Abati, in  an interview with Rock City 101.9 FM, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said "rumours that Jonathan was excessively fond of drinking alcohol had to do with stereotyping about people from the South-South geo-political zone."

“But I can tell you that in my 4 years of working for President Jonathan, I never found him in a bibulous situation. If he ever tasted any drink, maybe a glass of wine during special occasions. All those stories about him drinking, about President Jonathan always being berated, about bibulous situations inside the Villa, those things did not exist. The people must find justifications to say this is why we think this situation is this way it is," Abati said.

Most Marriages Are Failing Because of Women Liberation - Bishop Oyedepo Speaks

Most Marriages Are Failing Because of Women Liberation - Bishop Oyedepo Speaks

Bishop David Oyedepo, has blamed the high rate of divorce cases in the world to the belief in women liberation.
Bishop David O. Oyedepo

During a service at his Living Faith Church in Ota, Ogun State on Sunday, August 23, founder and Bishop, David O. Oyedepo, said that women liberation is the reason why most marriages are failing. He has attributed that the increasing approval of equality between women and men have spilled into their marital lives.

He noted that such women now equate themselves with their husbands against the biblical doctrine that advises women to be submissive to their husbands and that men should love their wives.

The man of God who presided over the 3rd service of his church in Ota, Ogun State yesterday, said cases of divorce are more in the western world because people in such places have thrown away the dictates of God and have instead started consuming self-made laws that confer on them near-absolute freedom.

He revealed that this was partly the reason behind the laws approving homosexuality in such countries, and lamented what the world was now turning into, saying that nowadays, churches are being taken to court for refusing to marry men.

Speaking to the congregation, he said that women must be submissive to their husbands and that if they follow such with prayers, even if such men are wayward, God would return them to the family.

He also warned the men not to be carried away by the things of the world as they must learn to love their wives as the Bible had warned. “When you work in the light of scriptures, you create an enviable future,” he said.

President Buhari is Still Behaving Like a Military Dictator - Pa Reuben Fasoranti

Pa Reuben said, 'the reason we supported Jonathan, of course, was because he agreed to carry out the decisions of the National Conference.'

While briefing journalists in Ondo state, on the state of the nation, Pa Rueben Fasoranti, the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, said Nigeria will improve, if the confab report is implemented.

On President Buhari's delay in appointing ministers, Fasoranti said “Let him constitute his cabinet and start working. As it is now, Buhari is still behaving like a military dictator, just picking on people. He should sit down for work. His cabinet has not met. He is running a one-man show now but let us give him some time."

“I think the President should sit down and have a package. He is just picking people here and there. He did not have time to settle down for governance yet and the time is flying,"  He added.

The octogenarian also said Afenifere will not rest until the confab report, which was put together, during the National Conference, setup by former President Goodluck Jonathan, is implemented.

Adding that, “The reason we supported Jonathan, of course, was because he agreed to carry out the decisions of the National Conference. The present government is not working towards that and when the time comes, we shall speak again. Unless we do that, Nigeria will not settle. That is, the recommendations of the confab."

Stop Protecting Fayemi from EFCC- Ekiti PDP Tells APC

Stop Protecting Fayemi from EFCC- Ekiti PDP Tells APC

The People's Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of shielding former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi from EFCC probe.
Former Governor of Ekiti STate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi

Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the All Progressives Party, APC, in the state to stop shielding former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi from necessary investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged financial recklessness.

PDP, in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo also accused Fayemi of distracting the commission’s investigation  through his recent utterances in the media.

This came as the APC described the allegation against Fayemi as a pack of lies, noting that the state governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose misrepresented the latter’s view.

The PDP said: ‘’Why is he coming out almost a year after he was voted out of government by the Ekiti people, when he knows well that some security agencies are after him if not because he want to mislead and coerce them to believe that he was prudent.

‘’We still insist that the leadership of the APC is hell-bent on protecting Dr. Kayode Fayemi from the searchlight of the EFCC and other security agencies because they know that he ran Ekiti government aground before he was booted out by the popular vote, which has been judged to be the most peaceful, freest and fairest in the recent time.

‘’Anybody or person found wanting of mismanagement of the state resources must be brought to book.’’

However,he APC in statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Olatunbosun, said: ‘’Instead of regaling in the destruction of Fayemi’s legacies, which presented the best opportunities for Ekiti State to grow, Fayose is not only destroying himself, but also mortgaging the future of Ekiti people through stomach infrastructure that provides a kilogramme of rice and three-month-old chicken at every Christmas.

”Fayemi’s projects presented the best opportunities for the state to grow,   but Fayose has been hiding under non-existent debts to deny Ekiti people needed development.

‘’Fayose said that Fayemi bought N50 million bed even when there is no N1 million bed in  Government House. He said Fayemi built the new Government House with N3.5bn while in truth the building cost N2.1bn and is the cheapest of such in the country, the same way he said that Ekiti bond was taken to plant flowers.”

President Buhari congratulated Kaduna state for being chosen for the inaugural flight and expressed hope that the 2015 hajj would be the best in the history of Nigeria.

President Buhari on Sunday inaugurated the Muslim pilgrims flight to Saudi Arabia for 2015.

He was represented by Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, who performed the ceremony at the Kaduna International Airport, Kaduna.

"Our country is going through very challenging times and we will need all the prayers we can have and the best place to do that for the Muslim Umma is in Saudi Arabia," the President said.

President Buhari congratulated Kaduna state for being chosen for the inaugural flight and expressed hope that the 2015 hajj would be the best in the history of Nigeria.

He said the Federal Government was committed to reducing the cost of pilgrimage and involvement of government in the exercise.

"I agree with the views of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs that hajj, if properly organized, should add value to the Nigerian economy rather than take from it. Accordingly, I approve the constitution of a very thorough and effective Central Coordinating Team of Muslim Leaders to oversee the hajj this year," he said.

Buhari said the leader of the hajj coordinating team is the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

See What Oliseh's Mother Told Him to Make Him Accept Super Eagles' Job

The Super Eagles of Nigeria's head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has revealed what his mother told him before accepting the coaching job.
Super Eagles' Coach, Sunday Oliseh

While speaking during a session with journalists at the Onikan stadium’s conference centre in Lagos,  newly-appointed coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, who has been asked to qualify Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, said;
“Let me share this with you. When I was to take the job, I told my dad and my mother. I will share what my mum told me with you.

I called my father and mother that they are offering me this job, but my mother told me ‘Na fire my son’. But she told me something that I really loved, she said ‘If to say he easy, na everybody for dey do am’ But if I want to succeed, I should work hard to do it well that was what she said.

I don’t have the base to work on but I try to look at it that in the past one year, we have played 62 players and that is practically six teams. I don’t mean those who played regularly but those who were invited to camp.

In the national teams we have over 11 to 12 games and for now, I don’t have a base of six regular players that I can build the team around.

To tell me now to start performing miracles by winning matches otherwise you resign if you don’t win this. I don’t think Guardiola or Mourinho will do that? My job is cut out for me and it is a lot of work. I look at it as a difficult task but I cannot succeed if we are antagonising ourselves.”

RCCG Slams Femi Aribisala's Article on Pastor Adeboye

RCCG Slams Femi Aribisala's Article on Pastor Adeboye

The Redeemed Christain Church of God has condemned the article written by Femi Aribisala titled, 'Adeboye the richest man in the world'.

In the article, published by Nigerian Eye, Aribisala condemned the ministry of Adeboye, the revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The foremost pentecostal church has issued a response in an attempt to correct the errors and misconception that the writer has about it's leader and the church.

Read the response below: -

“Blessed is the man who has delight in obeying God completely, whatsoever he does shall prosper.”

A CHAMPION in a lime and spoon 100, meters race after winning a trophy, was asked by journalists which of the crowd reaction helped him to win. The crowd that cheered and praised him or the crowd that mocked and jeered at him. His response taught us a lesson: Ignoring the two crowd reactions was the secret of his success.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye is a focused Christian and a man of God. He has no time, neither for those who praise him nor for those that mock him and call him names. Adeboye is passionate about salvation, about evangelism, about character, integrity and holiness. He is an incurable soul winner. As a young worker and new convert, he formed a club: “The fishers of men”. They would not go to bed any day without winning some souls.

Over the years, God has used him to bring joy to many homes enveloped in sorrow caused by barrenness, terminal ailment or children of wealthy parents that were hooked on drugs. At the last RCCG Convention, which was the platform for Femi Aribisala’s view, many women that were called barren that Adeboye prayed for in previous conventions brought their children in their hundreds of thousands to give thanks to God and to testify.

People brought on wheel chairs got up and began to walk. People with terminal ailments came out for prayer and they were asked to see their doctors and confirm the healing that took place. Adeboye did not want to share in God’s glory; so he asked his pastors to lay hands on these people. Under Adeboye’s leadership, The Redeemed Christian Church of God established departments that care for the afflicted and the needy.

At Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry, CADAM, we gather drug addicts, heal them and give them education or technical training depending on individual’s ability and interest.

Habitation of Hope is a home that gathers the homeless and the destitutes and give them hope, education and a future. Many of these are now citizens doing well for themselves.

RAPAC is a department that counsels, prays and treats in confidence, people who are HIV positive.

Holistic Ministry ministers to prostitutes, rehabilitates them, educates and trains them. ‘A CAN can make a difference’ provides food for people in the streets and under the bridges. RCCG is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in Nigeria and in 187 other nations.

The General Overseer of a Pentecostal church based in Victoria Island, Pastor Femi Aribisala, wearing a mask of social critic and columnist wrote an article: “Adeboye the richest man in the world”.

In the article, Aribisala condemned the ministry of Adeboye, the revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Aribisala believes the purpose of building a new auditorium that can accommodate 12 million worshippers in response to God’s instructions is because Adeboye wants to make the Guinness Book of Records. Adeboye has his name in the LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE which is the best achievement any mortal can ever aspire to.

Aribisala said: “Pastor Adeboye is using man’s wisdom to teach his congregation how to prosper instead of imitating our Lord Jesus who pleaded with his disciples that calamity awaits rich people and that poor people are the blessed people.”

Aribisala got the gospel mixed up; many scriptures tell us the mind of Christ about wealth, our welfare, our health, salvation and eternity. In 3 John verse 2, the Bible says: “Beloved, I wish above all things that you mayest prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul prospereth”. In other words, after salvation, God wants us to have a good health and strong financial resources.

In Philippians 4:19, the Bible says: “But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

That is, the Lord will supply the needs to take the gospel to the uttermost parts of the world.

The Bible tells us that Jesus was rich, he was never poor.

“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of hosts”— Haggai 2:8.

The owner of solid minerals cannot be described as poor. In Psalm 50:10, the Bible says: “The Lord of host is rich. The cattle on a thousand hills are His”. The gospel of Jesus, however, teaches us not to focus on wealth and that the rich should not be high minded and that our focus should be on things of eternal value. ‘Salvation, preaching the gospel’ are of eternal value and they have to be funded.

SELF-SUFFICIENT

Jesus was self-sufficient. He did not carry money or cheque book about but when he needed a thing he would decree it. He rode in the Mercedes Jeep of his time to Jerusalem. He commanded money out of the mouth of a fish when he needed to pay tax. He was not a tax defaulter. The little boy who brought five loaves of bread and two fishes went home with 12 baskets because Jesus wanted to teach his congregation and disciples the principles of financial breakthrough.

RCCG is a full gospel church where holiness, divine healing, evangelism and principles of godly prosperity without sorrow are preached.

Adeboye used a metaphor when he told the congregation on Saturday of the last convention that he is richer than Bill Gates. In 188 nations, members of RCCG would offer him a place to stay in their personal houses, a privilege Bill Gates does not have. It was a challenge to the workers to win souls.

It will be a surprise if Aribisala’s church in the home of the wealthy, Victoria Island, is built to look like a temple or synagogue of the Bible days, simply because his understanding is that only poverty can be combined with holiness. It is also amazing that Aribisala’s church was not planted in Ajegunle, Idumota or Mushin which agrees with his philosophy that only the poor will enter the Kingdom of God.

Another issue is Aribisala’s comment that Daddy Adeboye once boasted that those who want to become President will come to RCCG to seek support and that the royalty of the United Kingdom will want to be part of RCCG. The prophecy that political candidates in Nigeria will come to RCCG to solicit support has been fulfilled. In 2011, presidential aspirants came to seek Adeboye’s prayer and counsel.

Prince Charles, the British crown prince, worshipped in RCCG, Jesus House, London, and commended the efforts of the church. Queen Elizabeth has also endorsed the impact and efforts of RCCG in the United Kingdom. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, and Prime Minister David Cameron attended RCCG Festival of Life in London when elections were close by. Adeboye prayed for them and they won their respective elections.

Cameron said: “Thank you, Daddy G.O.” Aribisala’s friends in RCCG should give him those tapes, if he wants to confirm.

Reputation law governing charity empowers a charity to raise money publicly if they wish provided the finished product is presented to the donors to see. Adeboye is not a signatory to the project account. He has invited the public to visit the new auditorium even while under construction.

Regarding some of our pastors and members who are in political/public offices, we acknowledge that their promotion came from God, it is a wake-up call for increased prayers that insurgency will be crushed and Nigeria will prosper and improve in all fruits for their sake.

The big question is this; how does Aribisala have so much time to visit and monitor messages and structures of other churches when he has a flock to feed spiritually?

In conclusion, we like to advise and pray for Aribisala.

PREACHING THE TRUTH

He should preach the truth to his congregation, the full gospel truth—holiness, prosperity, divine healing- and he should challenge them to win souls so that together we can expand the Kingdom of God and extinguish or reduce the size of Satan’s Kingdom. He should preach in his articles and win souls.

The Lord that is rich in mercy will envelope Aribisala in his mercy, overlook his malicious words against us and enlighten his eyes of understanding.

Adegbiji, a pastor, is the head of the RCCG Media and Public Relations.

The suspect raped the deceased in her residence at night and was said to have been having constant affair with the widow with a threat to kill her if she dared disclose it to anyone.

The poor widow, who depended on artisan work to cater for her children, was seen with bruises all over her motionless body following the incident.

A family source said that when the suspect continued the act, the widow’s daughter, a 13-year-old girl was forced by Nwabu to leave the house for threatening to expose him.

The youths of the area then mobilised a search party for the suspect on hearing his alleged action and later found him in his father’s compound. On interrogation, he admitted committing the crime.

Nwabu said, “Mrs. Ogodo was owing me N1, 500 and when I visited her for the payment she refused. I actually asked her for sex and she also refused. I later used force on her and I did not know she will die because I didn’t want to kill her.

But she struggled with me which annoyed me and I beat her up, I had sex with her for several hours.”

Speaking on the incident, the widow’s father, Chief Ogbonna Ogayi said his granddaughter ran to him in the night and reported that Nwabu came to their house and started harassing her mother with a cutlass.

See the Faces Behind Community Masquerades Arrested by Police for Robbery

Local masquerades have been nabbed by the Police authorities for robbing a trader and other motorists.

Two community masquerades were arrested yesterday by Policemen at Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South LGA of Enugu State for robbing a trader, Chinonso Ezewaji, along the Nsukka-Obollo-Afor Road.

It was gathered that in the past few weeks, masquerades had continuously mounted road blocks in the area and inflicted heavy wounds on motorists while dispossessing them of their valuables.

When the police team reached Ovoko where the masquerades were operating, two of the policemen in the bus pretended as if they wanted to give the two masquerades money; they stretched their hands to collect it and that was how they were apprehended while others ran away.

When one of the arrested masquerades was searched, Indian hemp was found in his pocket.

Enugu State Police PRO, DSP Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the incident, noting that investigation has commenced into the matter.

Anti-Corruption: Buhari's Nominated Judges Fail Integrity Test

Majority of the judges nominated for probable appointment as heads of the proposed anti-corruption specialised courts failed the integrity test being conducted by security agencies.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-graft war is currently facing a setback as majorirty of the judges norminated for probable appointment as heads of the proposed anti-corruption specialised courts couldn't pass the integrity test being conducted by security agencies.

A major part of the demand for the job was boldness and avoidance of sentiments in judgement.

Thirty-seven specialised courts are reportedly being planned by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in all the states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to solely and speedily try alleged looters. A source in the judicial circle told the Nigerian Tribune that the selection process is ongoing due to the massive failure of the integrity test by Nigerian judges. The source revealed a couple of judges who have been termed as the best successfully passed the test and have been selected for the sensitive assignment.

A fresh nomination process is under consideration currently to give other judges a chance to prove their worth.

An involved security source, "You know what judiciary is like in Nigeria today. The entire place (judiciary) is in a complete mess,” the source said, though it could not say exactly when the screening exercise would end."

The source also faulted the comment credited to Professor Itse Sagay, head of the presidential advisory committee on anti-corruption war, calling on suspected looters to take the advantage of its existence to return stolen wealth in exchange for reduced punishment.

“Either Sagay or his committee cannot make such an offer. It is not within their power to do that. That can never be part of their brief,”
the source added.

It also said that Sagay’s committee would do well by having an interface with anti-corruption bodies and other relevant security bodies in the country and know more about their workings before making any recommendations to the president.

We normally train very well but this week we trained better than ever. Why? Because we are not happy. I’m not happy with the results and the players are not happy with the results. We want to do better and there is only one way, which is to work well and better than ever, which we did this week.

Do we have to improve? Obviously, always, but we are calm. Not happy but calm. We need to be unhappy because that feeling makes you work, but to be calm is important.

On competing and beating Man Utd to sign Pedro:
I only want to beat Man United on the pitch. I don't want to go in that direction. Our job is not to get a player another club wants.

On his new players, Pedro and Baba which was recently signed:
New players are always welcome so obviously I’m happy both of them have come to us. I know the Premier League doesn’t start tomorrow, it started two weeks ago, but people call it the transfer window and I sometimes call it the opportunity window. While the window is open there is always an opportunity.

It’s dangerous because every team can lose players at a moment when nobody wants to, but at the same time it’s an opportunity to get players until the last moment and this week we got a very good, young left-back that we needed, with potential we believe can be developed, and we got one of the best attacking players in the world, a player with lots of experience and with something I really like very much, which is the desire to leave a giant club, one of the best clubs in the world, a club that normally players don’t want to leave.

For a player like him, who is loved by the club and who loves the club, he wanted to leave because he wants something more for his career. That’s evidence of his ambition.

Landlord's Daughter Bites Off Tenant's Ear Over N500 Electricity Bill Balance

Landlord's Daughter Bites Off Tenant's Ear Over N500 Electricity Bill Balance

A woman identified as Vivian in Benin City has been arrested for biting off the ear of a young lady over unpaid electricity bills.

Confusion struck Oba Market Benin, over the weekend, when a 23-year-old hair dresser, Faith Idehen, had her left ear bitten off in an attack by the daughter of her landlord, identified as Vivian, over electricity bill.

It was gathered that trouble started when Vivian, a single mother of two, demanded for N1,500, being monthly payment for electricity bill from Faith.

The tenant’s plea that she did not have up to that amount, but deposited N1,000 with a promise to pay the balance of N500 later in the day, fell on deaf ears.

The victim was said to have left the compound and boarded a commercial bus to her place of work at Oba Market. Vivian allegedly trailed and caught up with her at the popular Yanga Fish Market and pounced on her. A fight started.

Faith was reported to have fainted as she bled profusely from her left ear before passers-by and onlookers rescued her from the grip of her attacker, who threatened to deal with her entire family.

The assailant was eventually arrested by men of Oba Market Police Station after a 24-hour siege was laid to her residence by the police.

See What Former President Jonathan's Local Community is Complaining About

People of Otuoke, the home town of immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan have laid fresh complains.

The Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr. Elijah Ateki, Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa, has lamented the scarcity of potable water in the area.

Ateki told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Otuoke on Sunday, August 23, that lack of drinking water was the major problem in the community.

According to him, the situation is due to the pollution of rivers in the area by oil spillage.

He said the community had suffered inadequate potable water over the years, and urged the state and federal governments to provide the people with potable water.

“Otuoke community depends on rivers and now that all the rivers are polluted by oil, it is difficult for us to get potable water here,” Ateki said.

Emmanuel Agede, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the area, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and called for government’s intervention.

“You will not believe it that here in Otuoke, we use water from an unused suck-away pit dug near our lodge, for washing clothes and bathing.

“For cooking and drinking, we buy sachet water; life is very difficult here; we spend the bulk of our monthly allowances on water for survival.”

Change is a Mirage Sold to Us - Etcetera Says Buhari Has Failed on His Promises | A MUST READ

Change is a Mirage Sold to Us - Etcetera Says Buhari Has Failed on His Promises | A MUST READ

In a new article published on Punch, Etcetera has xrayed President Buhari's achievement so far and says that he has failed on his promises. Read on...
Etcetera

Former musician and popular Social commentator, Etcetera, is back again with more viewpoints about the state of Nigeria. And th Below is the article he wrote and was published by Punch:
“I believe if Nigeria does not kill corruption; corruption will kill Nigeria. I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.” – President Buhari (during his campaign)

Now, the presidency through the presidential spokesman has said the promise of asset declaration wasn’t made by Buhari but his political party. Jeez! These people just think say we be mumu sha… dem think say everybody for naija dey suffer from dyslexia. Shebi na dem preach say Buhari na modest man with just two houses and 150 cattle? They also said Buhari and Osinbajo have declared their assets, and it is deposited with the code of conduct bureau and the only thing needed is just verification by the bureau? How many months does the Code of Conduct Bureau need to verify an asset of two houses and 150 cattle? Nawa ooo!!! Naija una don see una sef? Is this the “change?”

President Buhari’s achievements as a former military Head of State may be many. But he has utterly failed to keep a simple promise core to the rationale for his election into office. And as the campaign promises recede into memory, it is equally clear that this administration may never provide the needed reforms that will address the most worrisome flaws in our democratic system. I have met a lot of Buhari supporters who are finally coming to the realisation that they may have made a very bad decision in the last Presidential election. So many of them no longer seem to know why they believed that a retired military general would perform any better than the career politicians they mistrust.

President Buhari’s bygone promises to run “the most transparent administration in the history of this country” have become a subject of mockery, given how he has failed in a simple task of appointing ministers.

When critics like me attacked his go-slow government, the administration defended itself by claiming the president was only taking his time.

But the problem with this administration is not only about being too slow but it has also left untouched the corrupt individuals, which means that we would continue to live under a government with significant transparency problems, a culture of lobbying that is often tantamount to sanctioned corruption, and an executive branch of government that preaches a change that no one gets to see.

Is it unrealistic to expect ambitious systemic reforms in Nigeria? Yet it remains the case that many people voted for Buhari precisely because he promised to attempt them.

I believe president Buhari can solve a lot of things … but won’t. Whatever he once was or wasn’t, we should accept that Buhari is now a creature of the political establishment. He is captive to its loyalties and prejudices, and committed to safeguarding its interests. I am not arguing that he hasn’t or won’t accomplish anything, but there are whole categories of problems that he won’t try to fix.

“Change” is a mirage sold to us by Buhari and his political party to get our votes. And that’s a shame. Nigerians are unlikely to support a politician making similar promises in the future because Buhari has made them impossible to believe.

Those sending messages to me at mail@etceteralive.com asking me to write on how Buhari’s administration has improved electricity supply in the country should ask themselves how long president Buhari has been in office to put in place the machinery for such a turnaround. Abi rain nor dey fall for una area? Let us wait till the dams are dried up before singing halleluyah.

Fayose is a pathological and serial liar -Ekiti APC Fires Shots

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, yesterday, came under heavy criticism from the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose

The Ekiti State chapter of APC has accused Governor AYo Fayose of beig a pathological and serial liar.

The party also stated that asides organizing road shows and buying pepper and tomatoes in open markets to pretend to be people friendly, Fayose has not achieved anything or concluded any project to his credit since assuming office 10 months.

The state party made this known in a statement released by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun on Sunday August 23rd.

The statement read in part:

"Fayose claimed that Ekiti owed N86 billion, when in reality the debt restructuring as released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) and published in Thisday of Friday, August 21, 2015, confirmed Ekiti debt as N18. 8 billion after conversion to long-term bond. This has shown that Fayose is a pathological and serial liar.

Ekiti people should now ask Fayose where he got the N86b figure he has been bandying around that does not allow him implement development projects, including payments of gratuities and pensions for several months while also refusing to pay last year September salaries and five months salaries to traditional rulers after collecting allocations for the payments.

The party challenged Fayose to probe the former governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi, who according to the statement has made himself available in the last 10 months if he is sure of his allegations.

Government is a continuum. Fayemi met billions of naira debts on assumption of office, but this did not deter him from executing many projects, including life-lifting and empowerment projects as well as enduring physical infrastructure, such as renovation of schools and hospitals, new Government House, the pavilion, the civic centre incorporating e-library, women development centre, conference centre and museum, construction of modern markets across the state amongst others.

This also did not stop him from increasing workers salaries three times, a feat which Fayose never matched not even once."

Did You Know? Ooni of Ife's Wives Can Only Be Inherited by New Oba or Stay Widows

The wives of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Olubuse II, by tradition cannot re-marry after the demise of their husband
Wives of the late Ooni of Ife

The wives of the late Ooni of Ife cannot re-marry. They can only be ‘inherited’ by the next Ooni of Ife or remain widows.

In a shocking revelation, an unnamed palace chief in Ife has disclosed that the wives of the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade cannot re-marry after the demise of their husband . They can only be inherited by the next Ooni of Ife or remain widows for life.

The annonymous palace chief said the order was prescribed by the Ife tradition since the Ooni is not considered dead but to have transited to a higher realm. Maintaining that the Ooni still lives, he said it is forbidden for wives left behind by Oba Sijuwade to re-marry.

“The rules is general and applies to all Ooni that has passed on and not peculiar to the wives of Oba Sijuwade, the immediate past Ooni. There may not be a clearly defined repercussion against the tradition but it is advisable that the order is obeyed at all times and for all generations. The best that can happen to the oloris left behind by any late Ooni is for them to remain single or be inherited by the reigning Ooni.”

He added that it does not matter whether the wives are young or old, "what matters is that the tradition must be sustained in the overall interest of the society."

The late Ooni’s wives are Oloris Morisola, Ladun, Odunayo, Adedolapo and Linda and their ages are between 40’s and 60’s.

Mob Sets Man Ablaze for Stealing Pot of Soup in Calabar

Mob Sets Man Ablaze for Stealing Pot of Soup in Calabar

A young man in Calabar unfortunately met his untimely end when a mob butchered him and set him on fire for stealing a pot of soup.
An angry mob in Calabar, Cross River State capital on Sunday, August 23, yesterday, butchered a young man and set the remains on fire beside Atu Secondary School fence along Goldie Street, for allegedly robbing a woman of a pot of soup.
His two accomplices were said to have escaped.
The hoodlum, in the company of two others, were alleged to have attacked the woman at Mayne Avenue Extension in Calabar South.
They were allegedly attracted by the aroma of the soup the woman was warming for her family’s breakfast before heading for early morning mass at nearby St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
A young man, who lives in the same premises with the lady, said as the robbers were about to get out of the compound with the pot of soup, the woman raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to go after the thieves.
The mob caught up with the one carrying the pot of soup and dealt him several machete cuts before setting him ablaze.
An eyewitness said: “It was almost dawn when the boys attacked the woman and carried away her pot of soup. When they were about getting out of the compound, she raised alarm and people came out, pursued and caught up with one.”
He said the boy was not able to run as fast as his accomplices because of the pot of soup he refused to drop.
“This is not the first time they have come to our compound to steal. Last week, they removed the car battery of one of our neighbours and once night falls, they waylay people, especially ladies, around Goldie by Atu and snatch their handbags and phones, ” the eyewitness added.
At press time, there was no sign of security agents in the area, while the burnt body was still lying by Atu Secondary School fence.
