JaRule
and Ashanti
The ancient city of Warri, Delta State will be temporarily shut down come October 1, when American gruff-voiced rapper, Ja Rule, and R&B singer, Ashanti perform with their Nigerian counterparts in a show to mark this year’s Independence Day celebration.
The organisers of the show, tagged: ‘Warri Again: The Flagship’, Brownhill Events Centre said, both Ja Rule and Ashanti have already confirmed storming Nigeria for the show.
Ja Rule, born Jeffrey Atkins, is one of the biggest American rappers from the early 2000s, known for hits like “Between Me and You,” “Always on Time” and “Put It on Me.” He made his way onto the rap scene in 1999, with his debut album, “Venni Vetti Vecci” which became No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and launched the career of the rugged rapper with a grizzly voice.
Also, being singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress, Ashanti is most famous for her eponymous debut album, featuring the hit song “Foolish”, which sold over 503,000 copies in its first week of release throughout the United States in 2002. The album set a Soundscan record as the biggest opening week sales for a new female artist, outselling debuts by Alicia Keysand Lauryn Hill.
Ahead of the show, the Managing Partner/CEO of Brownhill Events Centre and Browhill Luxury Villa, Mrs Julie Pinnick said, during the week that they were leaving no stone unturned in their bid to give fun seekers in Nigeria an experience of a life time, adding that the foreign artistes are excited to be part of the show.
According to her, the decision to bring the artistes to Nigeria was borne out of the need to spice up the one-stop show. The maiden edition was held on October 1, last year, and featured a lot of the country’s A-list stars.
“This year, we decided to bring in foreign stars just to spice up the show a bit. It’s not just entertainment. All the artistes have not only confirmed their participation in the show, but they have also been paid before hand,” Mrs. Pinnick said.
