Blessing Dube, a popular Zimbabwean prophet from Zvishavane province, recently received the beating of his life from an angry man who found him having s*x with his wife in their bedroom hut.

 

According to B-Metro, Prophet Blessing Dube popularly known as Madzibaba Blessing was caught on Sunday 5th February by the woman's hsband identified as Liberty Nhanha.

 

Liberty Nhanha is said to have beaten the prophet to a pulp after he found him playing hide the sausage game with his wife Ndaizivei Madondo.

 

The development soon caused a stir in the community and people gathered. In the heat of the melee, Madzibaba Blessing quickly managed to escape the scene leaving behind Nhanha venting his anger on his wife who he also brutally attacked with an axe handle all over the body.

 

As a result of the attack, Madondo, who reportedly sustained broken ribs, is admitted at Zvishavane district hospital where she is reported to be fighting for her life.

 

According to a B-Metro, a source from the area, revealed that before the fateful night Madondo was frequenting prayers and fellowships at Madzibaba Blessing’s church such that she became so close to the man of God and her husband reportedly questioned the closeness.

 

Suspicions having got the better of him, Nhanha decided to trap his wife when he lied to her that he was going to work and would be back after two days. Thinking that her husband had gone, Madondo reportedly invited her lover for a sleep over.

 

The source said Nhanha came back at around 9pm and upon arrival he tip-toed to the bedroom hut where he could not believe his ears when he reportedly heard the two lovebirds’ moan of passion.

 

The enraged Nhanha forced open the door and found the two lovers giving each other the time of their lives and gave them a thorough hiding.

 

A source said: “During the attack both MADZIBABA Blessing and Madondo screamed like trapped animals while receiving a thorough hiding from Nhanha who was loudly exclaiming, ‘I will kill both of you’. He used an axe handle to attack them. As for madzibaba Blessing his cries were not just about pain but they were also about humiliation when he later bolted out of the bedroom hut stark n*ked.

“This was also after Nhanha missed him with an axe whose handle he later used to assault his wife with. The wife is battling for her life at Zvishavane hospital,” said the source who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals.

 

After committing the offence Nhanha reportedly disappeared from home and his whereabouts are unknown. The disgraced man of God however, is telling people that he was at the house for overnight prayers with the woman when she seduced him and later had s*x.

 

Madzibaba Blessing did not respond to B-Metro request for a comment on Tuesday afternoon when he hung up his phone the moment he was asked about the incident.

The minister said further that the fact that all the ministers were working optimally was an indication that the president was “hale and hearty.”

“Do you think we will be consulting our business like this if Mr. President is ill?” the minister asked rhetorically.

“He (pointing to Minister of Power, Babatunde Fashola) was in Anambra last week, I was in Kwara yesterday, all our ministers are busy doing their work. Mr. President is well and is absolutely not in danger,” he said.

 

“I can say without any hesitation that Mr. President is well, is hale and hearty. No question about that.”

 

Contrary to the federal government’s stance, other public officials like the Adamawa State Governor, Jibrilla Bindow, have asked Nigerians to pray for a sick President Buhari.

The Federal Government on Wednesday increased charges against the Senate President Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT over alleged false asset declaration.

 

Saraki is currently facing a 16-count charge for false asset declaration before the Danladi Umar-led tribunal sitting in Abuja. The Federal Government had in 2016 amended the charges from 13-counts to 16.

 

Counsel to the government, Rotimi Jacobs at the resumed trial today announced the decision to amend the charges, saying the motion has been served on all parties involved.

 

The amended charges were confirmed by the defence team who stated that they have been served by the prosecution. Counsel to Saraki, Kanu Agabi, also informed the tribunal that his client will want to enter plea for the fresh charges.

 

While proceeding with the case, the third prosecuting counsel in the case, Samuel Madujemu who is the Chief Administration Officer at CCB, today told the tribunal that Saraki upon assuming office as Kwara state governor, made his first assets declaration on September 16th 2003.

 

According to Madujemu, a joint investigative team involving the CCB, Federal Ministry of Justice and the EFCC, discovered that Saraki falsely declared his assets that year. 

"After we discovered that there were some discrepancies, we commenced further investigations into the matter. One of the discrepancies we discovered had to do with false declaration and none declaration of some assets and some liabilities.”

 

The witness told the tribunal that Saraki under-declared some assets he acquired in 2006. For instance, he told the tribunal that Saraki declared two properties he bought in Lagos and left out two others. While reading from one of the assets declaration forms marked as exhibit-3, Madujemu said:

 

“My lord what I see here is No17a and 17b Mc Donald Street Ikoyi which the defendant acquired with a bank loan in 2006. No 15a and 15b Mc Donald Ikoyi which he also acquired in 2006 was not included in the assets he declared.”

While addressing his congregation at the church’s headquarters in Ogba, Lagos State, the General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, disclosed how former President, Olusegun Obasanjo mobilised ex-Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote against President Muhammadu Buhari’s Presidential election in 2011.

 

Recall that both Bakare and Buhari contested respectively for the office of the Vice President and President in 2011 under the platform of the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), but eventually lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

The influential cleric disclosed that Obasanjo made the move because he wanted Buhari to replace him (Bakare) with ex-Minister of Finance, Okonjo-Iweala as his running mate, adding that despite the threat, Buhari rejected Obasanjo’s choice of Okonjo-Iweala.

 

Bakare said he got to know of Obasanjo’s threat through Nasir El-Rufai, who is the current Governor of Kaduna State, the day he was expected to submit his form.

 

He said, “The day I signed that paper was the last day of submission. I carried the candidacy paper with me, but I didn’t fill. The final day, Nasir el-Rufai (current governor of Kaduna) came to my room, and said Chief Obasanjo summoned him, that if he could appoint Okonjo-Iweala and drop Bakare, he (Obasanjo) will support Buhari.

“I was so glad, I was totally relieved, I took the nomination paper and I said ‘let us go to General Buhari’s room’. He took us to his bedroom, only three of us there.

“I said Nasir el-Rufai has just come to tell me good news, President Obasanjo has spoken to IBB, has also spoken to Dangote, they will now support you if you can only substitute Ngozi Iweala and let me go.

“I said, sir, there are five reasons why you must yield to this, and he kept on looking at me… Look, many of you don’t know this man… For the ability to keep calm in the midst of storm and not say anything… to hold your peace, I need some Fulani blood.

“I said five reasons why you must embrace this: ‘1. Ngozi Iweala is Delta Igbo; you have solved the problem of south-south and south-east. 2. She’s a Christian, faith balance. 3. She is a woman, gender balance. 4. She is a former minister of finance and external affairs, it is called experience, and currently, her position in the World Bank gives her global exposure, any of this five, I don’t have’.

“He looked at me, and said did Obasanjo meet with you or Nasir? I said honourable minister (el-Rufai), you speak, and he repeated all the things I’ve said. And he (Buhari) asked him, what do you think he (Obasanjo) is up to? He said ‘you know our boss, there is something up his sleeve’.

“Then he turned to me, and said Pastor Bakare I told you I have prayed my own prayer the way I know how to, and I chose you, if you don’t want, give me the form, I would look for somebody else.

“It was then Nasir said, egbon, sign it. In that room, I signed it, and Nasir seconded it. I left the place and it was as if a burden lifted.”

“Daily. I am not saying I speak with him directly but I am in touch with London daily. People around him, we speak daily,” he said

“In his communication to the National Assembly, that was not indicated. We just have to stay with what he has told us but what I will just say is that the President may be coming back sooner than people think because we hear all the rumors, we see all the malice, all the mischief against the President. All those people will be surprised. The President may be coming back sooner than they think.”

 

Femi said no one can compare the Yar’Adua scenario with what is happening to President Buhari now.

“You can’t compare the Yar’Adua scenario/saga with what is happening now. Then you could ask for daily updates because the President left the country without anybody been told where he was headed and why he was going there. Two, he did not transfer power to his then deputy, the Vice President. 

"That is not the situation now. When the President was leaving on January 19th, we issued a statement. He was going on vacation and he would do routine medical checkups. Now when those medical checkups need to be extended, we also announced it that because he needed to still do more and get the results, he has asked for an extension. and then three, power has been transferred to the Vice President who is the Acting President,” he said.

In a new circular sent to undergraduates, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has issued a dress code notice, expressing displeasure at the fashion of students on campus.

 

According to the circular, as obtained from an undergraduate of UNILAG, the university management said, “indecent modes of exposure do not reflect the seriousness, dignity and character-moulding nature of the institution.”

 

The management warned undergraduates to desist from wearing tight outfits and those that expose sensitive parts of the body.

 

The circular reads;  “It has been observed that some male and female students of the University of Lagos dress indecently on campus, even to lectures. Indecent dresses are either too tight, too short or expose sensitive parts of the body.

“Students should maintain a clean and well-cared for appearance in all settings on campus. Wearing of tight, strapless and revealing clothes whose length are above the knees are inappropriate,” the circular read.

 

Henceforth, male and female UNILAG students are not allowed to wear the following:

 

i. All tight-fitting clothes including skirts, trousers and blouses

ii. All clothes, which reveal sensitive parts of the body such as the bust, chest, belly, upper arms and the buttocks. Example of such dresses are transparent clothing, spaghetti tops, tubes and. Skirts and dresses with slits above the knees fall in this category.

iii. Outfits such as knickers and mini-skirts, dresses, which are not at least, knee length.

iv. Inappropriate outfits e.g party-wear, beach wear and bathroom slippers should not be worn to lectures.

v. Outfits such as T-shirts, skirts and jeans, which carry obscene and subliminal messages.

vi. Trousers such as hip-riders and low waist jeans.

 

For matriculation and graduation ceremonies, the management mandated students to wear academic gowns on a black or grey suit.

 

Lecturers and administrators have also empowered to exclude students from academic activities if they are not properly dressed.

According to DailyPost, Chukwuma suggested that anyone above 60 years of age should not be allowed to rule the country.

 

The Archbishop lamented while speaking to newsmen that the country is now in a comatose state following the decision of Buhari to extend his vacation in the UK over health related issue.

 

He said, “The present government came with the view to change things, but we are now facing challenges. The president started with enthusiasm but people are now disappointed. They have to agree that they have failed.

“I don’t pray that he should die. God should spare his life. Let him come back to continue from where he stopped.”

 

He blasted Buhari for going abroad for treatment, accusing him of breeding corruption by wasting the country's resources on unimportant matters. 

 

He added, “The people in government should not go for treatment abroad. It is a waste of resources and it is corruption.”

Two night watchmen identified as Olajide Olakanmi and Olanrewaju Taiwo, working in an Ibadan filling station, have been paraded by Oyo State Police Command at the weekend.

 

According to Vanguard, they confessed to have r*ped a stranded woman inside a mosque, after dispossessing her of her personal effects.

 

While parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Adegbuyi, said they also robbed the stranded woman of her money and property.

 

Adegbuyi said: “On February 1, at about 1a.m., two night guards attached to a filling station along Ologuneru-Eruwa Road, attacked a female, who had sought refuge at a nearby mosque and robbed her of her belongings, including phone and cash.

 

“The men, armed with guns and cutlasses, also raped the victim before they escaped. However, due to thorough investigation, the two suspects, later identified as Olajide Olakanmi, aged 30, and Olanrewaju Taiwo, aged 29  were arrested.”

 

Giving details of what the victim was doing in the mosque at that time, the CP said she was coming from Niger State and arrived Ologuneru area around 11p.m. She was unable to get a vehicle to her dad’s place, near Eruwa.

 

Adegbuyi added: “Then, a good Samaritan, who is a commercial motorcyclist, took her to the mosque to pass the night. But the suspects came from a nearby filling station and attacked her.”

 

The victim said her attackers stole N32,000 from her.

 

According to Vanguard, when the suspects were interviewed, both of them confessed that they actually raped their victim and robbed her of her phone and money. However, they denied taking N32,000 from her.

 

Olakanmi said: “When we got to the mosque, we saw her sleeping and we entered. Yes, we raped her one after the other. I was the first to rape her before my colleague took his turn.”

A Harvard Medical School study looked at the sex lives of 32,000 healthy guys for 18 years – with 3,839 of them later being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

 

The researchers quizzed the men about the average amount they climaxed each month and the results were surprising.

 

Lads aged between 40-49 who ejaculated 21 or more times each month had a 22% lower risk of developing the disease compared to those who ejaculated between four and seven times.

 

It can also be beneficial for women as masturbation can help fight UTIs by flushing out the cervix.

 

2. Stress and pain relief

Like many activities, masturbation releases endorphins which make us happy.

“In both men and women it [masturbation] provides release of stress, a time to commune with oneself (taking stock of one’s emotional state and needs), and for some even the possibility of greater self-awareness or insight,” Dr. Jordan Tishler told Medical Daily.

 

Masturbation has also been proven to help you sleep better and can help reduce pain associated with menstruation.

 

3. A pathway to addiction

Not all of the side effects of masturbation are good. Therapist Dee Wagner told Medical Daily that masturbation can, “serve as a chronic way to avoid intimacy with others, which in the long run can cause anxiety.”

 

Masturbation also stimulates a reward response in the brain which means it is possible to get addicted to the feeling of an orgasm.

A self-proclaimed prophet who claims to be the 'untouchable almighty god', miraculously escaped being lynched to death by angry locals in Uganda if not for Police response.

The founder of the New Jerusalem Tabernacle Church in Uganda, Pastor Severino Lukoya, on Monday, escaped being lynched after a group of angry locals pounced on him for his alleged ‘fake prophecies.’

 

The prophet and self-acclaimed ‘untouchable almighty god,’ had been accused of spreading falsehood and brainwashing locals. 

 

He met his waterloo yesterday after he traveled with his disciples to Kalongo for door-to-door prayer sessions. He claimed he was sent by God Himself to deliver a special message and also cleanse the Kalongo area of evil spirits.

 

According to Uganda Monitor, the prophet, who is known to preach in a mixture of ‘Acholi’ traditional religion, Islam and Christianity, had said God called him out to walk on foot and do a door-to-door preaching until he covers the entire country.

 

 

Unknown to him, Kalongo residents, who got wind of his visit, had laid ambush for him. Before Lukoya could embark on ‘redeeming’ prayer sessions, hundreds of angry residents descended on him.

 

As they reportedly battered him, they were quoted to have echoed: “He is not a true prophet. He preaches falsehood and false prophesies to us and we are tired of him.'

 

If not for the intervention of police operatives, the prophet could have been lynched, as operatives from Agago District Police quickly came to the rescue of the prophet, and reportedly whisked him away to their station.

 

Confirming the incident, the Agago District Police Commander, Albert Onyango said, “Residents hate him because of the past rebellion his daughter led.

“They also believe Lukoya is a cult leader whose presence brings bad omen. I think it is time Lukoya realized that he is not wanted in the district.

“This is the fourth time in less than two years that people are attempting to kill him,” the Police Commander added.

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed that it had received the letter from President Muhammadu Buhari extending his vacation in the UK. Senate spokesperson, Sen. Aliyu Sabi gave the confirmation on Tuesday while briefing members of the Senate Press Corps.

 

Sabi said that but for the suspension of plenary for budget consideration at committees’ level, the Senate would have read the letter from President Buhari. Sabi said that the Senate usually reads all correspondences after resumption of plenary but only felt it was necessary to confirm that the letter from Mr President had been received.

 

“As you are aware the senate suspended plenary to carry out one of the most important duties which is the interaction with the MDAs on the 2017 budget.

“Before we suspended plenary we received a letter from Mr President which was dated 18th, January 2017 where he informed the Distinguished senators that he was proceeding on his vacation for 10 days.

“In the letter he stated very clearly that the vice president will take charge of the running of the country.

“This is a normal thing and of course based on that timing Nigerians were expecting the return of Mr President.

“Now, we are in receipt of the second letter from Mr President where he is informing the senate that he is extending his vacation.

“This arose because in the first letter he did inform us that he will use that to see his doctors.

“In this second letter he is informing the senate that he is extending his vacation because in the cause of that routine medical check up they were still some test his doctors still want to run.

“This is a constitutional provision and let me say it is within his prerogative to do so and we are in receipt of that letter accordingly.

This is why we had to brief you so that we are now confirming that yes we are in receipt of that letter formally and we know that many things have been going on but this is our formal and official pronouncements to Nigeria on this particular subject matter,” he said.

An 18-year-old Boko Haram suicide bomber, Amina, who was intercepted by men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said she was given N200 for the mission.

 

She told our correspondent in Maiduguri that she was abducted two years ago by the sect members in Madagali, Adamawa, and taken to Sambisa forest.

 

“They gave us N200 each which they said we should use to buy food for ourselves.

“It took us three days to come to Maiduguri on a motorcycle. We were directed by the sect members to detonate our explosives any where we saw any form of gathering.

“They said if we press the button, the bomb would explode and we will automatically go to heaven.

“I was scared, so, I told them that I could not detonate any explosive. So, they said if Zainab detonated her own, it would serve the purpose.

“On our way to Maiduguri, we encountered the military and they were shooting. I was very scared and the people that brought us ran away.

“I am from Imam Shekau’s faction of Boko Haram, even though I have never seen Shekau. But I hear about him in Gobarawa,” Amina said.

 

She said that her father, mother and younger brother, Umar, were all killed when they tried to escape from the Boko Haram enclave where they were held hostage.

 

“We came from Gobarawa along Damboa, Madagali and Algarno axis, in a community where a lot of us were held hostage and married off by the sect members.

“I also am married to a Boko Haram Commander known as “Amir”.

The NSCDC Commandant in Borno, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said the command had handed over the suspect to the Garrison Commander, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, “ for proper investigation’’.

 

The Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri, Maj.- Gen. Lucky Irabor, confirmed that the suspect was in custody of the Army, and that she would undergo investigation.

“We are going to profile her as she would give us the lead to get to other insurgents,” Irabor said.

 

NAN reports that personnel of the NSCDC had earlier intercepted two female suicide bombers, who tried to ram into motorists at the NNPC Mega Station along Damboa Road, Maiduguri.

 

The Commandant of the corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told NAN that the incident occurred at about 6.45 a.m.

 

“Our personnel at the NNPC station intercepted two female suicide bombers who were targeting motorists on the long queue at the NNPC mega petrol station at about 6.45 a.m.

“One of the bombers got scared and threw away her bomb and was instantly arrested, while the other one began to run after people with her explosive but luckily, she was shot on the leg by our personnel after he chased her to a safe place,’’ Ibrahim said.

This is Sharon Rose Khumalo, the newly crowned Miss Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa who is trying to fly the flag high for intersex individuals.

 

According to Times Live, at 21 she discovered she was an intersex. This means she does not have ovaries or a uterus and will not be able to have children as a result.

 

Khumalo, who has previously spoken out about discovering that she was intersex at 21, told Sowetan that when she first found out she was "shattered."

 

"I just wanted to go home and cry. Sometimes I am okay and then on some days I look at other women who have children and I know I will never have that, but I have learnt to accept that this is the situation and I can't really change that."

 

 

Last year she was a top 16 finalist in Miss SA and started a blog to document what she went through. When she entered both pageants she told them that she was intersex and said she feared the outcome.

 

"I had fears that someone somewhere might say this and this and then it turns into something nasty, The judges supported me."

 

Intersex is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male.

Enough is Enough! Arsenal Must Sack Arsene Wenger

Watching the same thing over and over again can be just as maddening. Ask any Arsenal fan, a group now driven demented by Arsene Wenger's refusal to either alter his famed footballing philosophy - or hand over the reins to someone else.

 

As one banner at Chelsea on Saturday read, "Enough is Enough, Time to Go." The Gunners supporter holding the placard was dismissed as "an idiot" by Gary Neville but desperate people do stupid things.

 

 

"Arsene Wenger doesn’t deserve that," the former Manchester United defender-turned-pundit argued. "Obviously, the Arsenal fans are disappointed, but to pre-empt [a defeat] by bringing a banner into the ground is a joke."

 

Wenger, a three-time Premier League winner, does indeed deserve better but surely the more salient point here was that the "idiot" in question could make his banner beforehand, safe in the knowledge that his side would indeed self-destruct at Stamford Bridge.

 

There is no more damning indictment of Wenger's Arsenal. Gooners had seen this game before. Too many times. Consequently, they want to see change, evolution, but the sad truth is that the man who once revolutionised English football, the mastermind behind the greatest team the Premier League has ever seen, has run out of ideas.

 

Time waits for no man and Wenger's time is up. According to Goal sources, Wenger is still weighing up a two-year contract extension that former defender Martin Keown fully expects him to sign. However, as the ex-England international told BT Sport, "I'm not sure that will sit well with the fans."

 

It won't. Not at all. They are, like many Americans right now, so disillusioned, so desperate for change, that they would entrust their futures into the hands of a power-hungry madman.

 

Luckily for Arsenal, though, it need not come to that. Goal understands that Massimiliano Allegri could quit Juventus this summer - and the 49-year-old is the ideal coach for the Gunners.

 

Allegri is, for the most part, a calm, composed character. However, he is not afraid to take risks. He is the right kind of 'crazy' for Arsenal.

After watching his troops turn in a tepid performance in a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina earlier this month, Allegri decided enough was enough, it was time for a change.

 

Juve were still top of Serie A, and already safely through to the last 16 of the Champions League, but he detected an air of complacency among his players. So, to shake things up, Allegri ditched the 3-5-2 system that had served him and predecessor Antonio Conte so well, and fielded an adventurous 4-2-3-1 formation in Juve's very next outing, against Lazio.

 

 

"I am not much of a theorist," Allegri admitted after a commanding 2-0 win in Turin, "but every now and then I come up with a mad idea and try it on the pitch. The important thing is to be sure what you’re doing."

 

The results certainly suggest that the former AC Milan coach knows what he is doing: Juve have won four games in a row in all competitions, conceding just one goal in the process.

 

Allegri has stacked more attacking players in the starting line-up - yet managed to solidify his side in the process - and there was a nice symmetry in Juve winning their third successive Serie A game with their new formation on the same weekend that Arsenal suffered yet another humiliating loss to Chelsea.

 

Allegri regularly likes to say that, "A coach should do as little damage as possible" to his team. When he succeeded Conte at the helm in 2014, he took over a side that had won three consecutive Scudetti - yet Allegri has made Juve better, as evidenced by the way in which he led a side that had struggled in Europe to the final of the Champions League at the end of his first season in charge.

 

 

Allegri had a tough act to follow but actually improved Juve. He is still improving Juve. Wenger, by contrast, is hurting Arsenal, and their fans.

 

He knows it, too. He is an astute man - and that is why he is stalling over signing that new contract.

 

The Frenchman wants to see how the season finishes but the league is already gone for another year and he needs to accept that he is not the man to regain it. It would be sad to see him endure another campaign like this, given everything he has given to Arsenal, and English football.

 

Wenger needs to do right by his club, and its supporters, and step aside to allow Arsenal to move for Allegri. To do otherwise would be the definition of insanity.

Ex-Katsina Governor Ibrahim Shema Bursts Into Tears as EFCC Storms Court to Rearrest Him

An ex-Katsina State governor has once again found himself having questions to answer with the EFCC as they rearrest him in court.

Ibrahim Shema, a former governor of Katsina State, reportedly broke down in tears after operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) rearrested him, on Tuesday.

 

According to The Sun, Shema initially resisted the attempt to arrest him at a Katsina High Court where he was arraigned.

 

He is standing a 22-count charge bordering on alleged criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds.

 

There was a mild drama when he protested being humiliated publicly, but he had no choice than to surrender to the security agency after one hour.

 

In September, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted for allegedly refusing to honour its invitation.

 

Shema has denied the allegations of corruption levelled against him, accusing Bello Masari, his successor, of witch-hunting him.

Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Ibe Kachikwu has announced a date when importation of fuel into the country will cease.

Nigeria will stop importing refined petroleum products by 2019.

 

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Ibe Kachikwu, said on Tuesday in Abuja at a public hearing on the review of petroleum pricing template for Premium Motor Spirit organised by the House of Representatives.

 

He said that within two years, the Federal Government revived refineries that were non-functional to contribute about eight million out of over 20 million litres of petrol consumed in the country daily.

 

He explained that the Federal Government initiated a model which attracted foreign investors to partner with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to repair the country’s refineries within the two years period.

 

He said, “This has consistently served as a target for this government so that by December 2018, NNPC must be able to deliver on some of the terms given them, one of which is to reduce petroleum importation by 60 per cent.

“By 2019, we should be able to exist completely on the importation of petroleum products in this country.

“Cognisant of the fact that Dangote is building one refinery, we expect to have an excess situation.”

 

The minister said that Nigeria must also have the capacity to stop exporting crude oil. According to him, selling crude oil is not different from selling agricultural produce in an unprocessed manner.

 

He said, “The world is leaving that, every member of OPEC is leaving that because of the prizing, volume and market challenges is now shifting from selling crude to selling refined petroleum products.

“That is what this country must do and there is a template we are working on.”

 

He further said that the ministry intended to create an enabling environment that would promote local refining of crude oil.

 

He said, “The issue is not giving licences to illegality, the issue is how do we ensure that we create an investment environment that pulls individuals from illegal creek activities to legal business activities.

“We are looking at modular refineries, about 60 licences were given out just before this government came in and none of that was utilised because it requires a lot of money, land and crude security.

“But now we are going out to identify refineries, get individuals who can build refineries on the same platforms where our refineries are and identify some key specific modular refineries backed up by foreign investments working with state governments.

“Hopefully this will address the restiveness you see in the Niger Delta.”

 

On the possibility of reducing the fuel pump price, Kachikwu said there was no padding in the petroleum pricing template for PMS currently sold at N145 per litre.

 

According to him, 71 per cent of the cost is for the production and freight, 18 per cent balance is covered by depot charges and retailers margin.

 

He said, “In other words, the storage tanks, the amount you get by verge of operating a filling station takes another 18 per cent, the output of those is already taking you to roughly about 90 per cent.

“The transportation is less than 10 per cent; we probably can do better; the templating is an insignificant 1 per cent or 2 per cent but that’s not where the problem is.

“The problem is with foreign exchange rate

“There are two key elements in the template, how much you buy it is internationally fixed, it is not a Nigerian issue the cost of foreign exchange is a monetary policy issue.

“So, at the time we did the template the Central Bank of Nigeria monetary policy was N245, that was the basis upon which we calculated the pricing, today N305 is the exchange rate.

“And what we have tried to do is to ensure that anybody who sells us foreign exchange follows basically the instructions of the CBN in terms of the amount.”

The poster of the ponzi scheme was advertised inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God. Freeze condemned the act and asked people to be more vigilant to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
