As the Valentine’s Day draws near, many men’s dream may be shattered because of one singular oversight — the lack of vitamin D.

- Scientists are saying that despite whatever sexual prowess you may prove to have, all your boasting may soon become history if you are short on this vitamin!

- According to a new research from Italy, low levels of vitamin D may increase your risk of erectile dysfunction and literally make it hard for you to get hard!

- The researchers warn that men with severe cases of erectile dysfunction usually have vitamin D levels that are about 24 percent lower than those of men with mild forms of the condition.

- Insufficient levels of vitamin D may spur the production of free radicals called superoxide ions, says study author, Dr. Alessandra Barassi.

- She says these free radicals deplete the body’s nitric oxide — a molecule that helps the blood vessels to function properly.

- The result: It makes it hard to get hard.

- If you are healthy, the nitric oxide causes your blood vessels to relax, which increases the blood flow and causes an erection under normal circumstances,” says a urologist, Dr. Larry Lipshultz

- Apart from taking Vitamin D supplements, you can also feast on foods that are rich in Vitamin D. They include fatty fish such as tuna, mackerel, and salmon; beef liver, cheese and egg yolks. Foods fortified with vitamin D include some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals.
