According to a report on Channels TV, 90-year old His Royal Highness, Chief C.A.O. Otobotekere of the Gbarain clan of Tombia community in Bayelsa State, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

5 heavily armed gunmen on Thursday stormed the residence of the monarch, forced him into a car and drove to Amassoma/Tombia bridge. They reportedly burnt the car, a Toyota Camry vehicle beyond recognition, took the victim and whisked him away in a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.

The incident led to a demonstration and barricading of the major road in the Tombia community which also serves as the link to other communities in the clan.

The protesters expressed anger that their clan head, who they described as the pillar of Tombai community, was kidnapped in such a manner and this was the fourth kidnap incident that has occurred in their community within a space of four months.

The youths have called for the immediate release of their community head as, according to them, his chances of survival in the hands of his abductors were slim because he suffers from high blood pressure and time spent without his routine drugs might lead to the loss of his life.

The youths, who said that the kidnappers were wearing Police vests as at the time of the incident, also alleged that men of the Nigerian Police delayed in responding to their cry for help.

There were also reports that a stray bullet from the abductors injured a food vendor and he was receiving treatment at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri
