FIFA president, Sepp Blatter has rued the decision to award Argentina captain, Lionel Messi the Golden Ball award for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Although Messi led Argentina to the final which they eventually lost to Germany, the FIFA president has said it was a decision he still sees as incorrect.
‘I think the decision was an incorrect one,’ Blatter said.
The president, who revealed that he had thought Germany’s World Cup winning goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer deserved the accolade, said it was however not up to him to decide.
‘I was surprised when I received the decision that had been decided by the committee. They told me that they only considered ten players that played in the final.’
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who is believed to have under par for Barcelona since last season, has been shortlisted among the 23-man list of players in the race for the 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or
